Tsubaki Leads the Lube-Free Market with Lambda Chain

For many years conventional oil based lubricants have been an issue when externally applied to chain drives in a wide range of industries and application environments. With demands for increased cleanliness spreading to industries such as paper, packaging and electronics, chains that require no additional lubrication are becoming ever more popular. Tsubaki Lambda drive chain uses internal lubrication to reduce the likelihood of wear in key components without risking contamination to the conveyed product or surrounding machinery area.

There are some obvious initial benefits to using this type of roller chain within MRO markets as it will retrofit directly with standard BS/DIN or ANSI chain sizes and requires no additional lubrication. As a result of this technology wear tends to be minimal since the key bearing areas of the chain are always lubricated, reducing the friction normally created, hence chain maintenance and the associated costly downtime. Industries and applications that have traditionally used expensive lubricants can now operate without the need for additional chain lubrication, even in some arduous wash down environments.

Tsubaki, the World's leading manufacturer of drive chain has set a new benchmark for self lubricating (or lube-free) chains as they are commonly known with its BS/DIN & ANSI series Lambda chain. The chain combines all the benefits of non-lube operation in a highly convenient, 'easy-disassemble' design (BS series) that retains full chain strength in the patented design ring coined connecting link which is supplied with every box of chain.

Lambda chain is the result of many years of technological development of Tsubaki's non-lube products - with the first generation Lambda launched back in 1988. The current generation results in an even better wear-life, ensuring that Lambda chain will comfortably outlast both traditional externally lubricated chains and other 'lube-free' type chains that have not received the same depth of design input or product development.

The Lambda technology is unified across both drive and conveyor series.

Specifying Lambda reduces maintenance requirements while increasing productivity in virtually any suitable application. Lambda can return several times the purchase value during its working life through reduced chain replacement and costs of lubricants associated with automatic and manual lubrication procedures. Lambda chain has a wide operating temperature depending on the specification from -10 degrees C through to +230 degrees C without compromising lubrication performance.

Tsubaki helps to create an environment where less frequent chain replacement results in less consumption of resources and contributes to a significantly lower CO2 emission.

The chain provides a direct replacement for standard size roller chains and only requires standard dimension sprockets. Unlike normally lubricated chains Lambda is dry to handle and available in the size range 06B - 24B in both single strand and 'duplex' form. The product is always available from stock unlike many other manufacturers offering their version of lube free products. Many standard attachment variants are available for BS/DIN in addition to an equally wide range of ANSI sizes. Special corrosion protective N.E.P Lambda and ultra-long life X-Lambda versions are also available for specific applications.

With such a strong development history Lambda is now available not just as a lube free chain but also in a number of variants within the ANSI series. The Lambda heavy series, which has the advantage of higher shock load resistance than standard ANSI Lambda, is particularly suitable for harsh environments where the chain will be subject to heavy impact; or for compact drives and equipment that must operate in tight spaces; or where higher transmission power, allowable load or tensile strength is required.

Heat resistant Lambda is available for those applications where temperature requirements are higher than ambient and therefore suitable for temperatures up to 230 degrees C. Specifically for food industry applications Tsubaki offers the Lambda FG series with a special food grade lubricant impregnated in the bush (NSF-H3 certified) and anti corrosive oil (NSF-H1 certified) to prevent chain corrosion.

Tsubaki launches new Cam Clutch and Mechanical Components catalogue

Tsubaki Europe has launched a new catalogue that contains its full range of cam clutches for general overrunning, indexing and backstopping applications. The catalogue also covers mechanical overload protection components, chain couplings and a cam clutch selection chart. The catalogue is available from Tsubaki as either a hardcopy or to download from the Tsubaki website.

The new Cam Clutch catalogue had been developed to provide readers with as much information and data about Tsubaki's cam clutch product range as possible, including technical specification. The range of products is suitable for a number of applications including contamination-free processes, high-temperature environments, wet and corrosive or dusty conditions. As with all Tsubaki products, the cam-clutches are made from the highest quality material; outer- and inner races are made of high-quality alloy steel with high surface hardness and core toughness. The races are precision ground, providing excellent concentricity and surface finish to obtain accurate cam rotation, where as cams are produced of special selected high alloy steel, with hardness option up to 2500HV.

To help customers differentiate between the different products that are available and choose the correct one for their application, Tsubaki has included a selection chart. The basic modes of operation are explained - overrunning, indexing and backstopping - and then a simple chart displays each product's suitability to specific tasks of each function.

Tsubaki Europe has launched a brand new user guide outlining recommended installation, care and maintenance methods for its chain products. Aimed primarily at OEM designers, maintenance subcontractors and engineering professionals at end users; the brochure provides a comprehensive reference point to maximise the lifetime; in combination with Tsubaki's unique chain features and benefits such as solid rollers, lube-groove bushes, easy dis-assembly and the patented ring coined connecting link.

The new guide is designed to support the three catalogues that have previously been launched by Tsubaki Europe. It includes an installation guide for each chain type as well as basic maintenance, inspection and problem solving techniques.

The reasoning behind the development of this guide is that maintenance and installation engineers are often expected to be master of all trades in today's lean operating conditions. Having a comprehensive guide that makes no assumptions about product knowledge, but provides detail and technical insight that is needed to effectively order, install and care for a critical power transmission component such as chain is now more relevant than ever.

The brochure is split into three key product sections - Roller Chain, Attachment Chain and Conveyor Chain, a corrosion resistance guide and appendix. Each product section has a number of chapters including ordering, installation, lubrication and inspection. The guide also includes information that is unique to particular types of chain - for example, chain length tolerance, cutting specific types of chain and tension adjustment. There is also an introduction to Tsubaki Europe's Match & Tag facility, a high accuracy service enabling supply of chains in exact matched sets for conveying systems.

Tsubaki has extended its range of cam clutches, and is now holding extensive stocks of European standard units in its European headquarters based in Holland and in the UK, offering customers the best possible solutions to the broadest spread of applications, with fast turnaround times on orders.

The range has been developed to meet the one way clutch requirements of a huge variety of applications - anything from production of corrugated paper where an overrunning clutch is essential to prevent the glue rollers from drying up to inclined bucket elevators used in such diverse industries as food or cement where reverse rotation of drive shafts may cause damage to machinery or other equipment.

Tsubaki cam clutches meet torque requirements right up to 686,000Nm, providing essential functionality and safety for any application, and particularly to critical and costly machinery. All standard models in the range are available ex-stock, and there is also an extensive range of more specialist clutches tailored to specific application requirements.

The Tsubaki range includes models for light, medium and heavy duty, in overrunning, indexing and backstop applications. From low to high speed with product specific features such as keyways, special lip seals for the effective protection against dust, oil or grease filled for low maintenance and additional components such as flanges, torque arms and covers.

The European standard range extends to eight variants with differing characteristics.

In such instances if one of the American or Japanese standard Tsubaki cam clutches is not suitable either then a custom solution can often by found, indeed, completely new designs can be developed for OEM applications.

This custom design and build service is also of great benefit in refitting or refurbishing aging equipment where the OE clutch itself is obsolete but where having to replace the entire drive train or re-engineer the package to accommodate a new standard clutch would not be economically viable.

European President hails the introduction of GT4 Winner

Despite the changing business environment Tsubaki has a very clear mission: to be a solution provider by offering a better Total Cost of Ownership for the final customer through significantly superior fatigue strength and lifetime of our chain.

There's a trend in engineering for some manufacturers to opt for low cost countries but Tsubaki made a big decision and a big investment to build the most advanced chain plant and technical centre in Japan. Our Kyotanabe facility is now the world's leading facility for the manufacture of premier chains.

The BS/DIN standard GT4 Winner chain has been developed and produced in the Kyotanabe factory in Japan, with all engineering, materials and parts fully under the control of Tsubaki. We are very confident that the Total Cost of Ownership, taking into consideration production cost, maintenance cost, production downtime and other factors, will show significant advantage to customers.

GT4 Winner has very unique features for the European market which are proprietary to Tsubaki: "Solid Bush with Oil Grooves inside" providing significantly longer wear life. TSUBAKI sets new standard for RS roller chain

Tsubaki, the world's largest and most advanced manufacturer of roller chain has released a new 4th generation BS/DIN standard roller chain. The latest generation chain, branded Tsubaki GT4 Winner hosts a number of manufacturing and materials developments.

Pre Lubrication Lube Groove (LG) Bush
Tsubaki Lube Groove (LG) seamless bushes are precision components and perfectly cylindrical. Our special lube grooves hold oil at the point of contact, where the chain needs it most, providing an internal reservoir for lubricant. The result is a chain that lasts longer with lower maintenance costs over the lifetime of the chain.

Seamless Bush > Perfectly Cylindrical
The new Tsubaki BS/DIN series chain has a seamless bush with a very precise cylindrical profile and surface finish resulting in better surface contact between the pin and bush, and improved lubricant retention.

Easy dis-assembly
With Tsubaki's design of rivet head the chain is easily dis-assembled with an additional benefit being that in the event of the chain being overloaded, the markings on the rivet head will identify pin rotation.

Increased Transmission Capacity > Ring Coining
The Ring Coined connecting link allows the chain to be specified up to its full kW rating. The precision and strength achieved on these components is far beyond that of competitor's offerings. The typical standard slip-fit connecting link is usually much weaker than the other links. Tsubaki's Ring Coin technology has overcome that.

Tsubaki takes its environmental responsibility very seriously in its state-of-the-art production facilities. The new BS/DIN series chain contributes significantly to reducing CO2 emissions due to the greatly extended replacement frequency.

Supplied in a new high quality box design for the European market, GT4 Winner is available in sizes 06B to 40B as standard, with larger sizes available on request. Both simplex and duplex variants are available, with a triplex variant available to order and as a stock item later in the year. Stock of the new GT4 Winner chain will be held by TSUBAKI throughout Europe and by many leading distribution partners, making it available for next-day delivery in most areas.

Tsubaki Technical Seminar at Transmision, Spain

On the 5th of May distributors from all over Spain and Portugal gathered in Madrid to join the 2 day seminar that was organised as a co-operation between Transmision and Tsubaki.

In an informal setting, all 22 participants shared experiences, market developments, technological innovations and requirements. Many questions were raised, and answered. Judging from the reactions of the participants the seminar was a great success. Tsubaki is already looking forward to the next seminar, which will be organised for final customers in Portugal, and will take place end of May in Porto.
